Privacy

This is a personal portfolio site and it collects very little about visitors. This page says what it collects, why, and who handles it.

The site is run by Kelroy James, who is responsible for the data described below. The contact address is kelroydbjames@gmail.com.

Analytics

The site uses two analytics services to see which pages are read and which links are clicked: Cloudflare Web Analytics and Umami. Neither sets cookies, and neither is used to build a profile of an individual visitor or to follow visitors from one site to another. They record page views, the page a visitor arrived from, the country, and broad details such as browser and device type. They also record clicks on a small set of links: the CV download, the "Request a tailored CV" email link, the newsletter link, the PDF downloads and the contact email links.

The reason is to learn which writing is read and whether the CV and newsletter links are used. The legal basis is legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used. Visitors who prefer not to be counted can block analytics scripts in their browser, and the site works the same without them.

Contact form

The form on the home page sends the name, email address, organisation, role type and message typed into it to Formspree, which delivers it to my inbox and keeps a copy in its own service. I use the details to reply and for nothing else. Messages are kept for as long as the conversation is useful, and I will delete any that you ask me to delete.

Email links

The "Request a tailored CV", "Future role discussion" and similar buttons open your own email program with a message addressed to me. Nothing is sent until you send it, and the message then travels through your email provider and mine in the usual way.

The Chain of Custody newsletter is published through beehiiv, and the subscribe links on this site take you to beehiiv's own page. If you subscribe, beehiiv collects your email address under its own privacy policy, and I receive your address and basic subscription details to send you the newsletter. Links from this site carry a short tag (for example utm_medium=article-invite) so that I can see which page a new subscriber came from. You can unsubscribe at any time from the link in any issue, and I will delete your details on request.

Hosting and links to other sites

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes visitor requests as any web host does, and the source is stored on GitHub. Links to other sites, including LinkedIn, beehiiv and the sources cited in essays, are covered by those sites' own policies.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you, correct or delete any personal data I hold about you, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you think I have handled it badly. Write to the address above.
